Association of Bloomsbury Squares and Gardens

Mecklenburgh Square Garden is one of the founding members of the Association of Bloomsbury Squares and Gardens which is an umbrella group of the Friends and other organisations that support or manage the many historic squares and gardens in Bloomsbury. It aims to encourage visitors and residents to appreciate and enjoy them by providing a central point for information and news about the gardens, and any events and activities that are taking place.

A Tribute to Martin Andrews in the Garden

Martin Andrews

Martin of the Mews is missed around the Square and his absence at the Garden Committee meetings is palpable.

The Garden Committee has installed a modest bird bath and plinth in tribute to his many years of loyal service to the Garden and Mecklenburgh Square.

The bowl is a bespoke piece designed by local artist Lucy Smith and is resting on a plinth which also has a hint of the Martin Andrews Plinth & BowlGeorgian – something we know Martin, with his love of Georgian architecture, would approve of.

It has been placed in the south east corner of the garden, near the gardeners’ gate, facing towards the mews where Martin lived for many years.

You have an opportunity to contribute to to the cost of Martin’s tribute and future maintenance fund. Please contact Caroline for details.
