‘Martin of the Mews’ is missed around the Square and his absence at the Garden Committee meetings is palpable.
The Garden Committee has installed a modest bird bath and plinth in tribute to his many years of loyal service to the Garden and Mecklenburgh Square.
The bowl is a bespoke piece designed by local artist Lucy Smith and is resting on a plinth which also has a hint of the Georgian – something we know Martin, with his love of Georgian architecture, would approve of.
It has been placed in the south east corner of the garden, near the gardeners’ gate, facing towards the mews where Martin lived for many years.
